Liturgical Ministries

Simply put "Liturgical Ministers" are non-clergy people who assist with parts of our liturgical celebrations.

  • Ministers of Hospitality (ushers, greeters)

  • Ministers of Music (music leader, organist, other instrumentalists, cantor, choir members)

  • Ministers of the Word (lectors, readers for the Liturgy of the Word for children, catechists for the catechumenate)

  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (ministers of the Eucharistic body and Blood at Mass, ministers who take Communion to the sick)

  • Ministers of the Altar (servers)

  • Sacristans

If you are interested in assisting with any of these ministries, or just want more information on them, please contact the parish office.

Ministers of Hospitality

Hospitality ministers help make people feel welcome, help find available seats, take up the collection and ensure its safekeeping. They recruit a family or group of individuals who will bring forth the bread and wine, hand out bulletins or other material, assist those who need special help, and answer questions.

Ministers of Music

Ministers of Music are called to use their talents and gifts to share the message of God through music either by instruments or vocals

At St. Paul we are blessed to have three different choirs:

  • Adult Choir - plays primarily at our Saturday vigil Mass at 5:30pm and our Sunday morning Mass at 9:00am

  • Youth Choir - plays primarily at our Sunday 11:00am Mass

  • Spanish Choir - plays primarily at our Sunday 12:30pm Mass in Spanish

Ministers of the Word

The Lector clearly and understandably proclaims the Word of God to the community. It is the task of the lectors to proclaim the scriptures so that they command the attention of all.  Proclaiming the Word is different from any other reading.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

By "extraordinary" we do not mean special, distinguished or set apart. The ordinary ministers of the Eucharist are the priests and deacons. Primarily, the extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist assist with the distribution the precious Body and Blood of Christ during the whole liturgy. Those who are called to this ministry must, above all else, know how to be truly present to others in the moment they have. They are brothers and sisters in this very body and blood they are sharing, and not only speak their own faith in saying "body of Christ," they call forth the faith of the one receiving.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion may also bring the Holy Eucharist to those who are homebound, in nursing homes or hospitals.

Ministers of the Altar

The various tasks of a altar server include assisting with the book of prayers when the Presider reads from it, helping to set the table during preparation, carrying various objects in procession such as a thurible, (censer filled with incense), processional cross and candles, and assisting in cleaning up after Mass.

Sacristans

The sacristan is needed before Sunday Mass. Their responsibility is care for the condition of the whole room where liturgy is celebrated, as well as for the vessels, candles, and preparation of the bread and wine for each celebration.
